Diabolique magazine rises from the (printed) tomb!
While lazily strolling round the shops in another generic British city centre I lamented the decline of the horror magazine. I browsed in Forbidden Planet, HMV, WH Smith and some general newsagents who stock a plethora of salacious and horrific publications but all had very very little by way of actual horror movies content.
That’s why it’s great news (and with no little bias) that Diabolique magazine has come back to the land of print bucking the trend of the disappearing genre magazine. Once more its cult & genre film knowledge, amongst other things, will be back exposing our brains and most likely wallets to new and exciting film and music releases.
Now the reason I am a big fan of Diabolique is because of the insights contained in the articles and the fact that it appears quite a lot of research goes into every piece not just some watch-once and copy a press release job that some magazines adhere to and not just commercial chasing, sales driven crap on the latest over hyped piece of generic contemporary dross that some others seem to think makes a magazine along with disproportionate advertising space. No thank you.
Now, where was I, ah yes – the first issue will cover Asian cinema, not something that we cover on this site but I am a big fan of the Japanese zombie movies (STACEY; VERSUS;WILD ZERO - although ZOMBIE ASS: TOILET OF THE DEAD won't be rewatched) and their gory bizarre flicks (AUDITION; GROTESQUE; ICHI THE KILLER) while the other countries aren’t too bad either (I’m thinking of you Park Chan-Wook) so this will be an interesting chance for me to discover some new movies and what the fuck is up with the resurgent love for Godzilla and his ilk in modern society.

On a side note, the web version of the magazine has been running an Italian cinema season and you all will no doubt have seen me link to the site via the Cosi Perversa social media pages so whatever you do make sure you check out their website.
Finally, available again you can find out more and pre-order your copy direct from them here.
