The destination for exploitation!
On Sunday 27th November the sleaze, filth and gore of New York’s 42nd Street in the 80s will come alive in Leicester as the first ‘Grindhouse Planet’ film festival kicks off.
Ok well maybe the streets won’t be any more decadent than they normally are in Leicester on a Sunday but step inside the Shed venue on Yeoman Street and transport yourself back in time (minus the threat level that is) and enjoy over 10 hours of modern grindhouse films, Q&A’s, music and most importantly pizza.
Put together by British writer/director Marc Hamill (THE WRONG FLOOR) the festival seeks to promote the best in new Grindhouse releases and is no doubt a welcome addition to any genre fans festival calendar….especially when tickets for the day cost only £4 in advance!
Seeking to give the fans as much as they can stomach the day the festival has gone for sheer cult diversity mixing numerous short films with four features, including the highly rated ‘The Barn’ and the sounds-so-good-it-can’t-fail ‘Frankenstein Created Bikers’, starring genre stars Laurence R. Harvey (THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 2&3; THE EDITOR) and the always delightful Tristan Risk (AMERICAN MARY; THE EDITOR; THE VALLEY OF THE RATS).

THE BARN, from director Justin M. Seaman, is set on Halloween back in 1989 where best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what's left of their final Devil's Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it's up to Sam and Josh to find a way to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within "The Barn".
Meanwhile FRANKENSTEIN CREATED BIKERS has an outlaw biker finds himself addicted to a diabolical substance and hunted by a grenade-tossing femme fatale, bounty hunters, law enforcement, a rival motorcycle gang, mutations and a topless stripper hit squad. How can that fail!
With action like this the genre fan is guaranteed to find at least a handful of films to appease whatever fetish gives you your kicks and at a price that is most definitely wallet friendly.
For Cosi Perversa this festival will be a good way to check out a whole load of new films (sadly no Italian but you can’t have everything) and film makers not to mention to smooze with designer to the stars Tom Hodge aka The Dude Designs (HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN; THEY LIVE!; WOLF COP] who will be one of several special guests at the festival. Oh and congratulations and good luck to Paul Doherty and the cast and crew of the short film BAD HABIT which is entered in the 48 hour film challenge.
Hope to see you all there.
