VOYEURISM, VIOLENCE AND GIALLO
WATCH ME WHEN I KILL arrives on UK Blu-ray October 23rd!
Forty years after its initial release, WATCH ME WHEN I KILL [also known as THE CAT’S VICTIMS] is finally getting a British HD release courtesy of 88 Films - the company who also stuck out the sophomore effort of director Antonio Bido, the terrific THE BLOODSTAINED SHADOW.
A captivating and carnage packed thriller WATCH ME WHEN I KILL demands your attention as Antonio Bido displays a strong sense of genre understanding and just enough innovation to make this film more than just a Dario Argento-lite [not that there’s anything wrong with that] copy. Although originally released quite late in the giallo-cycle it certainly holds up well and is comparable to those classics that came before.
In the film after a pharmacist is slaughtered, the culprit believes he has been spotted by a rogue female onlooker. Naturally she is soon pegged as his next victim… but her life depends on identifying him before he tracks her down – and with the smell of her sweat leaving a few too many nods to her whereabouts, the heat is more definitely on!
With a twisted - and consistently twisting - tale of post-war guilt, not to mention a sophisticated (if ever-so-slightly sleazy) Agatha Christie-style whodunit narrative, the film will now be released with a glorious new 4k scan along with two rarely seen short films from Antonio Bido. If that was not enough the extras also include a new interview with (Cosi Perversa endorsed) academic Mikel Koven, who penned the essential giallo tome LA DOLCE MORTE – which if you can get for a decent price is heavily recommended
Finally as often with this label a limited collectors booklet, written by Dr. Calum Waddell is also available and these booklets have never disappointed so if you can, make sure you get hold of a release from the initial batch.
WATCH ME WHEN I KILL is available to pre-order now from 88 Films direct on their website.
