The Wicked Gift
Supernatural horror THE WICKED GIFT will hit Italian cinemas on 6th December.
Starring and directed by rising star Roberto D'Antona (INSANE; THE REAPING), the announcement came at the recent Italian Horror Show of Latina where the director alongside fellow cast and crew (including actor Michael Segal - APOCALYPSE Z; AGE OF THE DEAD; VIRUS: EXTREME CONTAMINATION) showcased the latest trailer for the film, see below:
Hot off the international success of the TV series THE REAPING, which can be found on Amazon Prime in most territories, Roberto D'Antona looks to be building on this momentum with this polished effort which promises to be very different from the classic Italian horror movies. Although whether this is something international audiences want is another thing. Regardless, THE WICKED GIFT certainly looks like it will appeal to a wider audience than those clinging to the past and might succeed in finding an international fanbase thanks to its look and contemporary themes allowing it to challenge its peers from the United States.

The film itself follows Ethan, a young introverted designer, who has suffered from insomnia for many years due to his terrible nightmares. Since he can’t solve his problem, even with the help of the therapy, he convinces himself that he in fact suffers from a personality disorder. So he does what any sane person does - goes to Medium but rather than having a great nights sleep he finds himself on a long journey that leads him to the realisation that his nightmares conceal something darker and far more sinister than he could ever imagine.
It is these ideas of nightmares and ghosts that have always frightened and fascinated director Roberto D'Antona but recognising that this is already a saturated the market the director has gone on record stating that he and producer Annamaria Lorusso decided not to create a pure horror story but rather a psychological thriller blended with other genres and ultimately helping to shape a new style or breed of Italian horror.
See the trailer and decide for yourself but for what it is worth THE WICKED GIFT so far looks to be a nice treat for the horror fan and hopefully one with enough style and innovation to separate it from the pack. Hopefully a UK and US release date is announced soon.
